If you need help right now
ABC Psychology is not a crisis service. We do not provide urgent or after-hours support, and we cannot respond to messages outside our opening hours.
If you or someone else is in immediate danger, call 000 now, or go to your nearest hospital emergency department.
If you are not in immediate danger but you need to talk to someone today, the services below are free, confidential, and available 24 hours a day.
Free support, 24 hours a day
These services are available to anyone in Australia, at any hour, including public holidays.
Support in Queensland
1300 MH CALL: 1300 642 255. Queensland Health's mental health telephone triage line, answered 24 hours a day. They can talk through what is happening and connect you with your local acute care team.
Other support
These services are not available around the clock, but they are worth knowing about.
If you are worried about someone else
You do not need to have the right words. Asking someone directly whether they are thinking about suicide does not put the idea in their head, and it often comes as a relief to be asked.
Stay with them if you can, help them contact one of the services above, and take them to an emergency department if you believe they are in danger. If you cannot keep them safe, call 000.
The Suicide Call Back Service on 1300 659 467 supports people who are worried about someone else, not just people in crisis themselves. You are allowed to ring for your own sake.
What we can and cannot do
We provide planned psychology appointments during our opening hours. We are not able to provide emergency care, crisis response, or same-day appointments.
If you are a current client and something urgent comes up between sessions, contact one of the services above, or call 000 if it is an emergency. You can let your psychologist know at your next appointment, or leave us a message and we will respond during opening hours.
Our hours are Monday to Friday, 9.00am to 5.30pm. Messages left outside these hours are not monitored.
Safety planning
If you have been through periods of crisis before, a safety plan written in advance can help. It sets out your warning signs, what has helped previously, who you can contact, and how to make your environment safer.
Beyond Blue's Beyond Now app is a free safety planning tool you can use on your own or with your psychologist. If you are working with us, your psychologist can help you build one.
